Ashish Massey, MD, PhD

Medicine is a profession in which you are constantly learning and growing—intellectually and personally. The drive to continuously interact and form bonds with people, along with my desire to keep up with the latest treatments and newest research findings, led me to pursue this career path.

Having spent a significant amount of time conducting research while acquiring my PhD, I was drawn to oncology, because vast amounts of research are instrumental to advancing this field. I love pediatrics because of the resilience of young patients and the sheer joy I experience while working with them.
 
I treat children who have various disorders of the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, as well as blood cancers, such as leukemia and lymphoma. I also see pediatric patients who have brain and spinal cord tumors.

I perform diagnostic tests, including lumbar punctures, spinal taps, and bone marrow aspirations and biopsies in children. As a hematologist–oncologist, I prescribe chemotherapy to help manage certain conditions. I also work with specialists, including radiation oncologists, surgical oncologists, and child life specialists, to ensure children receive advanced, team-based care that results in the best outcomes.

As part of a smaller practice, NYU Langone Cancer Center for Kids—Mineola, I offer direct and approachable care to my patients. My colleagues and I work with children and their families to make healthcare decisions, ensuring they are an active part of the treatment process.
