Ricardo A. Jacquez, MD

My medical career grew out of my passion to serve the community of El Paso, Texas, where I was born. My work as a licensed paramedic and field training officer triggered my drive to become a surgeon. I graduated from the University of Texas’ medical school in Houston in 2012 and completed my general surgical residency at New York–Presbyterian Hospital in 2018. Immediately after graduation, I joined Stony Brook University Hospital, where I completed a fellowship in surgical critical care in 2019. My career path eventually led me to NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island, where my mission is to have a positive impact on the nascent surgical residency program and medical school.

I care for and treat many patients. The one thing they have in common is that they are hurt and need help. Traumatic injuries can range from those resulting from a fall to the complex injuries associated with a high-speed motor vehicle accident. Emergency surgery may be needed for anything from appendicitis to a perforated ulcer. My goal is to help people get well, out of the hospital, and back to their lives as quickly as possible.

As a verified Level 1 Trauma Center, we have been reviewed by the American College of Surgeons and found to provide the highest level of care and have the highest commitment to education. We have met these stringent standards, so the public can rest assured it is receiving the highest quality care.

My current projects focus on surgical education, medical education, and emergency medical service education. I hope to make NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island the training epicenter for Long Island emergency medical services. Providing high-quality training and education to our local volunteer services can help to ensure the residents of Long Island receive the highest quality prehospital care that meets or exceeds national standards.

I am a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American Medical Association, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians, and the International Association of Flight & Critical Care Paramedics.
