As a cardiologist at NYU Langone, my career has been devoted to improving the lives of patients with heart failure. I am deeply inspired by the cooperation of the thousands of patients with chronic heart failure who have graciously allowed me to participate in their care. Their shared life experiences have provided me with a deeper understanding of the disease and invaluable insight into how to improve treatment. I founded the heart failure program at NYU Langone in 2008 and am proud to work with the current program leadership to provide high-quality care in the great tradition of NYU Langone exceptionalism.

Throughout my career, I have focused on developing and implementing innovative treatment strategies for heart failure. My work has been instrumental in advancing the understanding and management of this complex condition. I am committed to fostering strong partnerships with my patients, ensuring that they are actively involved in their care and that their needs are always prioritized.

My journey into medicine was inspired by a desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those with chronic conditions. I completed my medical education and training with a focus on cardiology, driven by a passion for understanding the intricacies of the heart and its vital role in overall health. As part of NYU Langone, I am dedicated to providing coordinated, seamless care that enhances the wellbeing of my patients.

Research Summary

My research is primarily focused on developing new treatment for a type of heart disease called heart failure. The broad aim of my work is to better understand the causes of exercise intolerance in patients with heart failure and develop new ways to improve exercise capacity and quality of life.

In order to determine which medicines and other forms of treatment are most helpful for patients with heart failure, I have served as a Principal Investigator for clinical trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and pharmaceutical companies. These studies have led to identification of new treatments that are currently approved by the FDA to improve quality of life and increase survival in patients with heart failure.

Currently, my research is focused on increased understanding of the factors that contribute to symptoms of fatigue and exercise intolerance in cardiovascular disease and after SARS-CoV-2 infection.
