About Me
The phrase “always go back to the basics” has rung very true to me. During medical school, I was intrigued by the complexity of a tiny human life—where observing every minute detail and taking a nuanced approach could be lifesaving. This propelled my interest in pediatrics and subsequently in neonatal critical care, where even a small advance in the field can lead to better medical outcomes and healthier infants and adults, which in turn lead to a successful community.
I am a neonatologist at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, where we provide care to preterm infants and full-term babies with varied health and medical issues affecting different organ systems. We work with a vast multidisciplinary team that includes physician trainees and different medical and surgical subspecialists to provide the best care for all our patients.
My primary research interest focuses on neonatal infections, with an emphasis on late onset (LO) infection caused by Group B Streptococcus (GBS). This is a significant bacterial pathogen that affects newborns, especially preterm infants, with unchanged incidence levels over time and with significant mortality and morbidity. My current work uses basic science and translational laboratory research that investigates interactions among microbial pathogens, their hosts, and their environment. Understanding these dynamics is essential to advancing preventive and therapeutic strategies in LO infection, especially in preterm infants.
