Jennifer K. Abate, NP, DNP

As a nurse practitioner at NYU Langone's Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center, I provide holistic and patient-centered care. My approach to nursing allows me to connect deeply with my patients, understanding their unique needs and guiding them through their healthcare journey. I believe in the power of combining traditional and complementary modalities to enhance overall wellbeing, ensuring that my patients receive comprehensive care that goes beyond just medication.

I specialize in managing patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) and other serious neurological conditions, drawing from my extensive experience in cardiac critical care, intensive care, and emergency nursing. With board certifications in family nursing, holistic care, and palliative care, I am well-equipped to provide a broad spectrum of treatments.

My training in holistic and palliative care allows me to offer recommendations that promote overall wellness, often suggesting lifestyle changes that do not require prescriptions. I am passionate about helping my patients live fulfilling lives despite their chronic conditions and also function as a palliative provider within NYU Langone's MS Palliative Care Center.

Throughout my career, I have worked in various high-stakes environments, including cardiac critical care and intensive care units, where I cared for patients with life-threatening conditions. This diverse background has equipped me with the skills to handle complex medical situations and provide high-quality care. Since joining the NYU Langone Multiple Sclerosis Comprehensive Care Center in 2015, I have found a special connection with the patient population with MS, advocating for their needs and ensuring their treatment plans align with their goals and values.

My journey into nursing was inspired by a long family tradition of nursing, starting with my great-grandmother in the 1920s. My mother, who became a nurse in 1972, has been a significant role model, instilling in me a passion for the field. As a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner, I am committed to promoting leadership in nursing and enjoy teaching and mentoring new nurses. My goal is to continue the legacy of compassionate and comprehensive care that my family has upheld for generations.
