Gwynne Latimer, MD

My fascination and appreciation for caring for children was sparked in medical school, where I decided to focus my medical training on pediatrics and intensive care.

Now as a pediatric intensivist, I care for children with serious illnesses. We see everything in the pediatric intensive care unit (ICU)—from asthma and pneumonia to new diagnoses of rare cancers to children who are recovering from surgeries. The ICU is where the hospital comes together to help children recover, and it is a deeply rewarding place to work.

In addition to working in the pediatric ICU, I teach fellows and residents about ICU medicine and do research on social determinants of health in critical illness. I am also actively involved in the hospital ethics committee.
