Your doctor may recommend lifestyle changes to help prevent chronic venous insufficiency from returning or worsening.

Compression Stockings

Your doctors may prescribe compression stockings to wear after treatment to help encourage blood flow to the heart. They create gentle pressure from the foot to the top of the leg.

Exercise and Leg Elevation

Because walking and low-impact workouts, such as using a rowing machine, can help improve blood flow in your legs, your doctor may recommend these exercises as a way of staying active. He or she can create an exercise program that’s right for you.

If you must sit for extended periods of time, your doctor may suggest taking a break every 30 minutes to move or flex your leg muscles. When sitting, elevate your legs on a footstool. Avoid crossing your legs, because this restricts blood flow.
