One or two weeks after a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins, you return to NYU Langone’s Vein Center for a follow-up visit. Your doctor examines your affected leg or legs to ensure that your veins are healing properly and that blood flow has improved. He or she may recommend lifestyle changes to help keep your legs healthy.
Your doctor may advise wearing compression stockings after treatment to help your body heal and to slow the formation of new varicose veins. These graduated stockings are tightest at the ankle and loosen toward the top of the leg. They create gentle pressure to help blood flow in the right direction.
The stockings come in three levels of support, with prescription-strength hose providing the most pressure on the legs. Your doctor decides which type of support stocking is right for you.
