Elizabeth J. Haines, DO

I chose to specialize in emergency medicine because I was drawn to the fast-paced environment of the emergency department and treating people with urgent needs and conditions. Later, the combination of wanting a more specialized field and my love of pediatrics led me to pursue a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine.

I treat children and adults in emergency settings at multiple NYU Langone locations, including Tisch Hospital, NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, and NYU Langone Health—Cobble Hill. I also see patients at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue. I divide my time evenly among the sites and I enjoy working with the different patient populations at each. I treat patients who have any condition or symptom that they consider an emergency, such as fevers, infections, and abdominal pain.

At NYU Langone, we provide emergency care 24/7. When I work with patients, I begin by asking them about their condition or symptoms so I can diagnose the problem. My priority is to engage my patients and listen carefully to their needs and concerns. When I work with children, I want them to feel as comfortable and at ease as possible. I also take the time to gain the support and trust of their parents.

I conduct research on the use of point-of-care ultrasound, and more recently, started a national project on neonatal infections in babies. Additionally, I am a member of the Medical Society of the State of New York, the Kings County Medical Society, and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
