Welcome to the

Inpatient Pediatric Hospitalist Service

Board-certified inpatient pediatricians care for your child during the hospital stay.

When medical care requires a hospital stay, our pediatric hospitalists partner with your child’s regular pediatrician and other members of the medical team to monitor your child’s progress, report any changes, and meet any needs that arise.

Inpatient Pediatric Hospitalist Service

Pediatric hospitalists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone are board-certified pediatricians who work in a hospital setting. They treat infections as well as chronic illnesses. They also help children recover comfortably from injuries and surgery, and provide care to healthy newborns in the nursery. Our inpatient pediatric specialists treat children at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital—34th Street, NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn.

Our pediatric hospitalists can also provide referrals to other hospital doctors as well as services such as child life, nutrition support, social work and care management, integrative medicine, and spiritual, religious, and chaplaincy services. They also help your child manage pain and connect them with palliative care assistance. Our support services and resilience programs are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.

When your child is ready to go home, the hospitalist communicates with your pediatrician to relay any instructions regarding ongoing care, and provide details about the hospital stay. If your child does not have a general pediatrician, our hospitalist can refer you to a pediatrician for follow-up care after discharge.

Our hospitalists can also help coordinate care after leaving the hospital, including follow-up appointments with a specialist and home services. The goal is to make the transition back home safe and comfortable for you and your family.
