Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety can be a normal part of life, but when your worries become overwhelming and interfere with your quality of life, the experts at NYU Langone can help. Anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social phobia, are among the most common mental health conditions affecting adults.
The mental health specialists at NYU Langone Psychiatry Associates include psychiatrists, psychologists, and licensed clinical social workers. They diagnose and manage a broad range of anxiety disorders. As part of our Mood Disorders Consultation Service, our psychiatrists work closely with other specialists, such as internists, cardiologists, and psychologists, to manage underlying conditions that accompany or trigger symptoms of anxiety disorders.
Our specialists also treat children with anxiety disorders at NYU Langone’s Child Study Center.
Treatment for Anxiety Disorders
Treatment of anxiety disorders in adults often includes psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both. Our specialists may also recommend deep brain stimulation, in which an electric current is used to alter brain chemistry. Typically, this is recommended for people who have severe symptoms that have not been relieved by other treatments.
