Support for Sleep Disorders in Children

Helping a child to overcome sleep problems at any age, and for any reason, is often easier said than done. Sleep specialists at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone quickly identify the behaviors or medical conditions that may be interfering with your child’s sleep and offer you and your child continuing medical and emotional support. This ensures that your child receives the most appropriate medical treatment available and that you have the tools you need to help your child and family establish good sleep habits. In addition, we offer child and family support services and resilience programs provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.

Medical Assistance

Children with sleep problems attributed to medical causes, such as obstructive sleep apnea or neurological movement disorders that interfere with sleep, are immediately referred to our network of pediatric specialists for help in treating these conditions.

Psychological Support

Changing a child’s sleep habits can be difficult, especially when it requires that the entire family make behavioral changes. Our psychologists can help families and children to identify and work through obstacles to implementing healthy sleep habits. They provide counseling to alleviate any anxiety your child has about sleep, for example, and can also provide support to families and children to better manage transitions that can affect sleep patterns, such as going back to school after summer break or after a prolonged illness.
