Community Events at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island

The experts at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island are dedicated to supporting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health of our community. Our team offers educational events, support groups, and other resources, including virtual and in-person lectures hosted by our specialists who share the latest health and wellness information. Senior adults can enjoy complimentary online tai chi and fitness classes to help improve balance and reduce the risk of falls. Parent education classes and CPR training courses are also available. All events are free and open to the public.

Our compassionate support services team offers virtual and in-person opportunities to connect with people having similar experiences. Bariatric Surgery Support Groups

Bereavement Support Groups and Webinars

Cancer Support Groups

Perlmutter Cancer Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island provides patient support groups. A variety of virtual groups are available for people with different types of cancer. Learn more.

Cardiology Support Groups

WomenHeart of NYU Langone Hospital—Long Island is a virtual, peer-led support network open to all women living with heart disease. For more information, email Johanna.Pimentel@NYULangone.org.

Cognitive Impairment Support Groups

Virtual support groups are available for caregivers of a parent or partner with cognitive impairment, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. These groups are facilitated by an advanced social worker in gerontology. For more information or to register, please call 516-663-8220.

Pediatric Diabetes Support Groups

We offer virtual support groups for children with type 1 diabetes and their families. These groups, led by our team of pediatric diabetes experts, help children, their siblings, and parents manage the condition, and any social and emotional adjustments that may occur.   • Kindred Spirits engages parents and caregivers of children with type 1 diabetes in an educational discussion with guest speakers. Participants share stories and challenges while receiving emotional support from their peers.
  • Kids Interested in Diabetes teaches children ages 5 to 10 and their siblings about type 1 diabetes through games and activities.
  • Dia-besties helps children ages 10 to 13 positively cope with managing type 1 diabetes through activities and open discussions.
  • Our Teen Group is designed for teenagers ages 13 to 18 with type 1 diabetes. Meetings consist of age-appropriate diabetes education, stress management techniques, games, and informal peer-to-peer support.

Prader-Willi Syndrome Support Group

Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group

Parent Education Classes

We offer virtual and in-person parent education classes that help prepare you for childbirth, newborn care, and breastfeeding. We also offer in-person prenatal yoga classes and a New Life Center tour. For more information, please call 516-663-2858; you can register online.

Senior Adult Fitness

A Matter of Balance and Tai Chi are two complimentary senior adult courses led by our fitness experts. Each course provides an effective approach to reduce the risk of falls. A Matter of Balance is an eight-week program that offers tips to help avoid falls and increase personal safety and provides exercises to help build strength and balance. Tai Chi is an eight-week program designed to improve calmness, confidence, and muscular strength. A balance assessment is required one month before the start of Tai Chi.
