Your child’s first appointment at Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone, can be a busy one because we have so much to show you.
After you check in with the receptionist, a staff member may take you and your child on a tour of the clinic and get you started with any necessary paperwork and medical evaluations. You also meet the members of your child’s medical team.
Each visit begins with a check of your child’s height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure. If needed, blood tests can be performed on site. Music therapists, child life specialists, and our nursing staff help to make these and all tests and procedures as easy as possible.
We invite you to explore the spaces around our waiting area: the playroom, teen room, fish tank, family pantry, music room, wellness room, and our education center. Children are encouraged to create artwork, grab a snack, or do homework in the playroom. Older patients enjoy spending time in the teen room to relax, play videogames, watch movies, use the computer, and study for school.
