Most children with autism spectrum disorder make developmental progress when treated with a combination of therapies. No one therapy or treatment is equally effective in all children. Specialists at NYU Langone’s Child Study Center offer a wide range of support services for children with autism spectrum disorder and their families and caregivers. Our child and family support services and resilience programs are provided by Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
NYU Langone’s Child Study Center is the designated Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (RCASD) for the five boroughs of New York City. Through the RCASD, we are able to offer a wide range of trainings and workshops for parents, families, educators, and professionals throughout the city.
The Child Study Center provides individual and group training that is tailored to meet the needs of each family. Our specialists emphasize a family-based approach and focus on the way the family functions.
The Child Study Center also offers individual and group support sessions to help support the siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder.
The Bridge Project is an educational and support program for families with children between the ages of 2 and 6 years old who have been recently diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. This two-session family support program teaches you strategies to improve your child’s social communication, help your child develop play and social skills, and more effectively manage your child’s behavior.
Families who receive diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder at the Child Study Center are connected to our Family Resource Consultation to discuss specific recommendations and make connections to local resources. Care coordinators also help families receive and maintain eligibility for state and federal services.
Siblings of children with autism spectrum disorder benefit from specialized support. Child Study Center therapists meet with siblings for support immediately after the diagnosis as well as over the long term.
Our experts help parents and adolescents prepare for transition to adulthood beginning in late adolescence. Families receive support about the emotional, physiological, legal, and service system ramifications of transitioning.
Children with autism spectrum disorder can benefit from creative strategies for learning skills and managing challenging behavior. Experts at the Child Study Center host workshops and webinars that help parents and community members on topics ranging from social skills to visual schedules to positive behavior management systems and more. Parents learn real-life examples of fun, creative, and therapeutic techniques that can be used at home and in schools.
