Our fertility specialists have performed thousands of successful in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures for women with infertility. Our doctors also pioneered improvements in IVF, including preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening, known as PGD and PGS, which help to identify the healthiest embryos and those that have the best chance of resulting in pregnancy. Our doctors’ efforts have led to more efficient and safer fertility treatments.
Each IVF treatment, or cycle, provides a step toward the goal of fertilization and implantation of a healthy embryo. These cycles involve taking fertility medications, removing eggs from a woman’s body in a minimally invasive procedure, inseminating the eggs using the semen of a partner or donor, and implanting fertilized eggs, or embryos, into the uterus.
More than one cycle of IVF may be required to achieve a successful pregnancy. Eggs, sperm, and embryos can be frozen through egg freezing, or cryopreservation, for future IVF treatments. Your doctor may recommend using donated eggs supplied through our egg donor program.
Our specialists at NYU Langone’s Fertility Center and NYU Langone Reproductive Specialists of New York provide counseling to determine if IVF is right for you. Our specially trained nurses lead orientation sessions to provide information about the IVF process.
